Whatever stability we are trying to achieve in our lives-whether in finances, marriage, health, or weight loss-unless God is the foundation of the structure we are building; the work truly is wasted. As soon as a strong wind blows, the structure will tumble down and leave us stranded at square one.
Note what Psalm 127:1-2 (NLT) says: "Unless the Lord builds the house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat for God gives rest to his loved ones."
If you have been toiling with trying to lose weight on your own, get God involved; He promises that He will give you rest from your weight loss struggles. God Himself says that it is useless to anxiously work so hard from morning until night because He gives rest to His loved ones. You are one of God's loved ones!
Submit all your struggles right now to the Lord-your struggle with junk food, sweets, over eating, indulging, laziness with exercise, everything that is a weight loss challenge for you-and He promises to give you rest!
Rest from what, exactly?
The devil does not want you to be happy; and he certainly does not want you fulfilling your God-given purpose on this earth. If you are engaged in a war with your weight and your health, you are not going to be able to perform at your full potential; not with "you" always on your mind! The devil knows this and will do everything in his power to keep you engaged in the war with your weight. For you this means being submitted to situations that will sabotage your weight loss efforts.
If you have not already figured it out yet: you are not in this war alone! You have a legion of demons and the devil himself opposing you and fighting against every effort you make to better yourself. Is it possible that the reason your weight loss efforts have failed so miserably in the past is because you've been trying to fight your opposition entirely by yourself? You are nowhere near equipped to fight this battle on your own!
God Wants to Fight the Battle for You-Let Him!
In 2 Chronicles 20:15 (NIV) God tells us not to fear the vast army of opposition coming against us because the battle is God's battle to fight. To obtain a better perspective of how this "vast army" comes against us in the realm of weight loss; look at Matthew 12:43-45 (NLT):
"When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, 'I will return to the person I came from.' So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation."
The enemy does not give up without a fight! When we decide we are going to reclaim and clean up our temples, the enemy doesn't just throw up his arms and say "Well, I guess that's that!" No, he does just as the above scripture says! He comes back in full force; nastier and meaner than ever!
In other words: your little "junk food craving" that only used to pester you every now-and-again, now rears its ugly head all hours of the day! All of a sudden you can't pass a fast-food restaurant without having an emotional breakdown!
Psalm 74:3 (GOD'S WORD Translation) "Turn your steps toward these pathetic ruins. The enemy has destroyed everything in the holy temple." Indeed, he may have. But remember that you are not in this fight alone! God wants to not only fight with you, but also for you! Give the battle to Him and He will conquer the opposition and restore you back to your ideal weight and health.
Get God Involved!
There is a reason why you over indulge on certain foods: they are filling a need that is void-maybe several of them. You do have needs and God wants to be the one you seek for their fulfillment. Otherwise you will stay on the weight loss-weight gain roller coaster.
Get God involved in your battle by seeking His presence. You seek Him by worshiping, praising, praying, and by reading His Word. Talk to Him as if He were your best friend and closest confidant sitting right next to you. Don't just talk, listen; give Him a chance to answer back. He already knows your troubles; He's just waiting for you to give Him the "green light" to act on your behalf.
