Have you noticed how many weight loss products there are out there? You don't need to go very far before coming across the latest hot diet, often being promoted by one celebrity or another. Many of them make outrageous claims about quick and easy weight loss. It can be hard to find your way through all the hype to find a good diet that will give you safe and sustainable weight loss.
Maybe you've tried some diet products before. If you are reading this, then chances are they didn't work for you, or maybe they did, but somehow you didn't manage to sustain any weight loss. Don't worry, you are not alone. According to a study from Oxford University published in the International Journal of Obesity, about 80 percent of all weight losers have regained the lost weight, and often gained back a little extra within 3 to 5 years.

Depressing isn't it? But there is worse - the National Weight Control Registry suggest that the rate may be as high as 95 percent. So doesn't it make sense to focus on sustainable weight loss? That definitely works for me. To be sustainable any weight loss program has to be safe and relatively easy to follow.
Safe is important. Some people think the best way to lose weight is just to starve yourself. This is crazy, your body will simply go into starvation mode and literally start eating itself - you will burn fat, but you will also burn muscle. As well as being unsustainable that is also very dangerous. You don't need me to remind me that your heart is a muscle. You do not want anything interfering with how your heart functions. So be wary of diets that put you onto a severely restricted calorie intake.
Can a diet be easy? Well, in theory losing weight is the easiest thing in the world, eat less calories than you burn up. So it's dead easy, eat less and exercise more and you will lose weight.
Let's break that down. Aim for a weight loss solution that promotes a good balanced diet. You need a variety of different food types in your diet - proteins, carbs, fruit and vegetables. You will want to cut down on fats, sugars and salt. Yes, you do need to eat some fats, but stick to 'good' fats. The most important thing is a diet that you find attractive. Don't go for something that you won't be able to sustain.
The same is true for exercise. If you hate going to the gym then there is no point in taking out a gym membership and promising yourself that you will go. You probably will go for a couple of weeks, but then other things will suddenly become more attractive. You will then join the thousands of people who are trapped into annual gym membership with a monthly bill to keep them feeling guilty. No, better to do something you enjoy, that way there is more chance that you will stick to it. So find something that works for you - walking, dancing, self-defence, swimming. Use your imagination.
Diet and exercise are critical, and for sustainable weight loss, you will want to adopt your new weight loss solution as a way of life. You will want to change the way you view food and exercise and make a complete change to your life.
